In 2009 I started an online comic, Adopted the Comic, despite being more from a Digital Media Arts background. In a short time I have really taken to illustration and have since added it to my freelance skill set. Here are a few examples of my freelance illustration works.
Children’s Thai Language Workbook – Illustrations & Design (2011 – Current)
I am currently working on a children’s Thai Language Worksbook with Thai Adoptive mum Karine Jones who is the editor/writer. I have developed the main characters and continue to draw full intro lesson pages while working with Karine on the overall look and design.
Adopted the Comic – Commissions (2009 – current)
Since starting Adopted the Comic, I have done a number of commissioned comic style portrait caricatures as well is Adopted the Comic branded custom comics (with writer Bert Ballard). The work has been used from a variety of reasons including family portraits on Christmas cards, avatars and even as part of a film publicity (in this case for Somewhere Between film documentary about Chinese Adopted teens).
Girl Character – Live Digital Drawing
Length: 5:36
This video is great in fullscreen HD. This is me drawing a very rough sketch of one of the characters I sometimes use in Adopted the Comic. I’ve always wanted to make a video like this having seen other artists to it. It shows a bit about my thinking as an artist.
Building illustration – Faculty of Linguistics, Philology & Phonetics, Oxford University (2010)
I was asked to do an illustration of the Center for Linguistics & Philology Building at Oxford University (formally called the Clarendon Press Institute building). My detailed illustration continues to been used for publicity materials and the faculty’s website.
