Pink Rose (2002)I was totally resistent to the idea that adoption effected me at all as a person. I decided to totally emerse myself in that denial. -
Pink Rose 1 of 10 (2002)Not only did I feel I needed to emerse myself, I also felt that I needed to show my venerability so I turned it into a nude study. -

Rose Tatto (2002)I draw a stencil of a rose I made on myself. This was the first piece I'd digitally altered in this way.
This was the first art piece I did about adoption. In the first year of my photography degree we were asked to do an autobiographical project. My peers, after finding out I was adopted, convinced me to do a small piece about my adoption despite my protests that it had no effect on my life.
My only starting point was my Vietnamese birth name, Le Bich-Hoong, which I was told means pink rose.
I did not work on adoption art for another two years after this project. It was only later I realized how important this piece would become and how pivotal it was to showing me the potential of using art to delve into the complex world of adoption.
