Rose Petal (2005)Rose Petal was the first piece I did after finishing university. This piece represents the three aspects of my names. The characters are the phonetic spelling of "Jessica" in Chinese and the rose petal represents my Vietnamese birth name "Bich-Hoong" which I'm told means pink rose.
Etching this was a difficult process, since the membrane is still intact in both this piece and the 'Orchid' piece.

Orchid (2007)This was based around my birthmother's name "Thi-Lan" which I'm told means pretty orchid. Engraved on the petals is the refugee number she was given when she fled to Hong Kong. -

eight Exhibition - a Setting Up Scheme 06-08 Group Exhibition (2007)I created 'Orchid' for specifically for the eight Exhibition @ CUBE Gallery, Manchester after wanting to revisit the 'Rose Petal' piece and make a counter part from 2 years before. -
Second Life online exhibition (2008)I believe that this was one of the first Second Life art exhibitions held. I'm a creature of the digital age and i thought this was a very interesting event giving potential for anyone in the world access art from their living rooms.
The Flowers series is an on going project that I started in 2005. I took the idea of the original [Pink Rose] and [Stamps] works but I wanted to remove myself from the imagery for a change, so rather than using old photos of myself and removing my body from the work, I got a fresh persecutive and aesthetic.
