I have always felt that my videos are just an extention of my photography work. All videos here are still looking at the themes of adoption. Currently I turn to video more than any other medium and is usually a conduit to my performances. In 2007 I did a short City & Guilds production course, however the nature of my video does tend to be single take or simple edits, in the future I hope to work on a more ambitious video pieces.
Row Your Boat 1min 40sec [Play]
Experimental piece about how I feel about the Vietnamese Refugee boat experience.
My Life in the News 5mins 23sec [Play]
Short documentary using old BBC footage of the Vietnamese Refugee boat people and the Hong Kong Hand-over.
Her Mother's Daughter 10mins 33sec [Play]
Both me and my (adopted) mum hold hands in an intimate piece.
Candles 16mins 47sec [Play]
Exploring the feelings of birthdays and thoughts behind whether or not my birthmother remembers me.
T-Shirts 6mins 44sec [Play]
Three different t-shirts represents the different aspects of my background/culture, British, Vietnamese and Chinese.
I had been working with video art for a while. A media festival had asked me to put together a documentary that used old BBC news footage that could be edited and a voice over. I found footage about Vietnamese boat people and the Hong Kong Hand Over. The documentary started out being about adoption, but it ended up being about the essence of me as a person. I really wish I had a copy of this video every time people asked me about my past, I really think I sum it up well in this piece.
