[PRESENT]
I graduated from Manchester Metropolitan University, UK in BA Photography with a 2:1 and MA Media Arts with distinction in 2005. Since then I have lived and worked as a freelance artist in Manchester, a place which I feel is an electrifying place to be a creative. I have done a number of exhibitions, residencies, screenings, schemes and training since leaving university. Most noticeably a Whisper residency at the Chinese Arts Centre and a two year business scheme (The Setting Up Scheme) where I developed my own creative business and practice. For more information on exhibitions I have done you can go to [CV].
My work is very conceptual and all my projects stem from my autobiographical issues about my adoption. I am very passionate about adoption and dispelling the myths and taboo of it. I find that adoption is complex and simple all at the same time. There are many conflicting emotions that come into play, but I feel they are not only unique to people connected to adoption, but that adoption only highlights the subject of "what makes a family" something everyone can relate to. To hear the story of my Adoption please see my [PAST].
My starting point is always photography and film, but these can manifest into any kind of mediums which tend to be installations, performance and interactive pieces. I feature in much of my own work but I am now wanting to expand my work into involving other people connected to adoption as well as members of the public. As well as my own art work I have done a number of art workshops. I am starting to develop a set of adoption art workshops. To see more go to [WORKSHOPS].
I am dyslexic and feel this is why I have always lent towards a visual expression. I have always used the skills I have learnt to cope with my dyslexia in positive ways and feel my dyslexia has never held me back from achieving my goals. Ironically I use a lot of text in my work.
I am a very passionate and hard working person who has many questions about the world, probably stemming from my curiosity about my past. I feel there is so much fascination in the world and in people. I feel very lucky that I can work in a field that lets me observe this.
